This week Fred and Jeff host the boys of summer and talk about America’s Pastime and the history of baseball in the Old Pueblo!  Jack Donovan from the Tucson Padres and Former Tucson Toros owner Davis Berke.

 

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Show

This week Fred and Jeff are hosting George Montgomery from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.  George is the Museum’s Curator of the Botany Department.  George talked about some of the tasty treats one might find in the Sonoran Desert, the history of the institution, the different exhibits and other of his favorite things, as well as special summer events and other fun happenings at the ASDM!!!  We’re even throwing in some links to pictures of some of the blooming plants we talked about!!!

The Big Mother’s Day Show

Fred and Jeff broadcast the big show live from Mayfield Florist, located at 7181 E. Tanque Verde Road and invite all their listeners to come by and order flowers for their mothers ~ lots of great deals to be had for mom!

Joining the program is Patti Caldwell from New Beginnings for Women and Children.  She

talked about this awesome program focusing on mothers facing life changing challenges.  She talked about how the program works and how these women are creating wonderful new beginnings for themselves and their children.  She talked about many ways you can help these special mothers!
All sorts of great stuff going on this weekend too!  The Centurion Party, the Arizona State Roller Derby Conference Championship, the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus Pops Concert and let’s not forget Mothers Day!!!

 

America’s Singing Ambassadors

Fred and Jeff welcomed Dr. Julian Ackerley from the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus.  They talked about the history of the chorus as well as the upcoming Annual Pops Concert at the Tucson Convention Center.  They also received a preview of the upcoming China trip this summer!

Russ Tolander was also on hand to talk about the Annual Backyard BBQ at The Hut this weekend.  The event features the world famous Chilis Band and is a fund raiser for the Cascade Foundation of Southern Arizona.

 

 

Magic in the Old Pueblo

Fred and Jeff welcome Angus McDoogal, Zogog the Wizard and Randy VanNostrand from the Valley of the Moon, a unique land of magic and kindness!!!  They talked about the history of Valley of the Moon and its founder, George Phar Legler, The Wizard of Oz program being presented over the next few weekends and other special treats created by all the fairies living in the heart of Tucson.

Carlo Clark from the Casa de la Luz Foundation was on hand to talk about National Healthcare Decisions Day, the Five Wishes and other information that will one day touch all our lives.
 

The Big Tree-Ring Show

Fred and Jeff welcome Professor Tom Swetnam from the University of Arizona Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research to the program this week.  The Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research was established in 1937 by A. E. Douglass, founder of the modern science of dendrochronology. The “Tree-Ring Lab” is recognized worldwide as a preeminent center for the advancement of tree-ring techniques and the broad application of dendrochronology in the social and environmental sciences.

Fred and Jeff also talk with perennial guest and guest host Michael Guymon about the current status of Imagine Greater Tucson and Mark Volner from Laffs Comedy Cafe about our own Laffs Comedy Survivor Arizona contest.  Roy Schaffer from Monkey Burger pops by to say hello too!!!

 

Big Events Celebrating Big Anniversaries

There are two big events happening in the Old Pueblo!

Meet Me at Maynard’s is celebrating it’s second anniversary on April 11th with its “Rock and Stroll” ~ 4 miles of music and a whole lot of partying going on.  There will be over twenty bands along the four mile route to enjoy, along with a raffle and other fun activities ~ all for free!!!  “GET OUT!” and enjoy a healthful walk in the heart of our wonderful community!

On April 17, The EVENT will spread its wings at La Encantada, celebrating a decade and raising funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson.  There will be over 52 restaurants participating, wine and loads of entertainment ~ a full night of fun, benefiting one of our community’s premier youth organizations!!!
 

The Screening Room Show

Fred and Jeff broadcast from the world famous Screening Room in the heart of Tucson’s downtown entertainment district.  The boys talk with Mia Schnaible about the history of The Screening Room and the 20th Anniversary of the Arizona International Film Festival, which runs from April 1st through the 20th.  They also get to hear from Jon Proudstar, director of the short film Dude Vision, who will be showing his new movie “So Close to Perfect” on April 2nd.
Clague Van Slyke III from the Tucson Parks Foundation talks about the $1,000,000 Hole-in-One Contest going on at Randolph Golf Course.  And if that wasn’t enough, Chase Spanks and Major Harlotte from Tucson Roller Derby roll through with everything you need to know about the big Dust Devil Tournament this weekend at the Tucson Convention Center.
 

Wine and Fundraising in the Old Pueblo

This week’s program originated from The Tinder Box!  Fred and Jeff sat down with Daniel Stoltzfus from Arizona Youth Partnership to talk about their 6th Annual A Taste of Arizona on March 25th at La Encantada Shopping Center.  They boys also discussed the Tucson Museum of Art’s Crush events coming up on April 1st and 2nd.  Both events are highlighting local restaurants and include the fruit of the vine (in fermented beverage form).  Don’t forget ~ Fred and Jeff will be Masters of Ceremony for a portion of the big 2011 Backyard BBQ at The Hut on April 30th.  Jeff’s world famous band, The Chili’s will also be playing.  Proceeds will support the Cascade Foundation of Southern Arizona!!!

 

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Show

Fred and Jeff are joined by Tom Boyle from the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Arizona – Hugo O’Conor Division and Dr. James “Big Jim” Griffith, local folklorist. We talk about a big St. Patrick’s Day fund raiser and a famous horse race that took place on March 17th ~ El Moro de Cumpas!!!
