We talk with Iva Coalheart and Zippy’s Takeout from Tucson Roller Derby about the upcoming Monster Mash this weekend at the Tucson Convention Center.  “Mystery Guest” Supervisor Ray Carol promotes The Party, which benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson.  And Rob LaMaster from the Tucson Police Foundation talks about the 4th Annual Cops and Rodders event, benefitting the Tucson Police Department.

We talk with Schuyler Lininger about the history of the hospitality industry in Tucson.

  • The “BRAINSTORMING” get together to discuss the Cactus Drive-in Theater Project being held Sunday, October 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  All interested people are invited.  The sesson will be at O’Shaughnessy’s Restaurant, 2200 N. Camino Principal
  • Tubac’s day-long celebration of Anza Days on Saturday, October 16th, from 9am to 5pm.  In the village there will be Yaqui dances, street theatre reenactments, a parade by the Rio Rico HS Marching Hawks Band, guided walking tours of Tubac’s National Historic District, and a variety of festival foods.  One highlight of many will be the colorful horseback re-enactment of Anza’s arrival in Tubac.
  • The Rotary Club of Tucson’s 4th Annual Classics Car Show on Saturday, October 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Tucson Roller Derby fundraiser at the Slaughterhouse on Friday, October 15th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
  • Upcoming events with the Kino Heritage Society, which is worling toward the canonization of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino.
 

Sacred Machine Museum and Curiosity Shop

Paula Catherine Valencia and Daniel Martin Diaz visit Fred and Jeff to talk about visual arts in Tucson.  They have opened the Sacred Machine Museum and Curiosity Shop in the Downtown and create music as well with the Blind Divine.  Daniel’s work can also be seen as part of the Lowbrow Tarot Project, where his piece is being used for the back of every card in the set.  Paula and Daniel talk about their history in Tucson and the world!   There is some beautiful music involved as well!!!

Dr. James “Big Jim” Griffith also stops by and talks about Tucson Meet Yourself, which begins this Friday, October 8th.

 

An Optimist at Oktoberfest

Tom Hogan from the Uptown Optimist Club talks about the upcoming Oktoberfest event.  Coach Pat Nugent discusses the Pima College Aztec Football team.  And the lovely Joe and Anna tell us how they are putting together a brand new Optimist Club at the University of Arizona.

R.W. (Bob) Webb ~ Arizona Wineries

R.W. (Bob) Webb showed up at The Tinder Box to smoke a cigar, have a glass of wine and tell us about the history of wine making in Arizona.   Bob has extensive roots in Southern AZ.  He is a third generation Arizonan, graduated from the University of Arizona in 1963 with a B. S. in Business Administration.  Bob founded the first winery in the state of Arizona in 1980, was founding member of The Arizona Wine Growers Association serving on that Board for 16 years and was appointed chairman of the Arizona Wine Commission by Governor Symington and served as Chair for three years.
